The Creole cuisine

The main dish of the Creole cuisine is the “carri”. Consisting of meat or fish, it is eaten with rice and "grains" (peas, lentils, beans), and a spicy sauce called "rougail".

Local products (fruits, vegetables, spices...) occupy an important place in the composition of Creole dishes. Depending on the season, you can easily find these products in the markets and shops of the island.

Reunion alcohol-specialties are sugar cane rum, “rum arrangé” fresh punch, wine from Cilaos or the famous "Dodo”.

Some of our famous local products: fruits (mango, pineapple, bananas, passion fruit, coconuts, lychees...), vanilla and spices, rum, essential oils (geranium, vetiver,...), salt of Saint-Leu, wine from Cilaos and other specialties...
