The Reunion culture is as rich as diverse. Apart from your walk and hikes, you will see the typical Creole architecture, like the “cases” and the remains of many colonial buildings.
Most of the Creole “cases” are equipped with opened porches. Due to the cooler climate in the mountains, the “cases” are glazed, there.
Reunion Island has also a varied musical repertoire, Maloya and Sega are the most popular genres. Inspired by slave songs, Maloya is characterized by the rhythm of drums. Since 2009 it is listed as intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Regarding the craft, you can buy many souvenirs, including items made of weaving plant fibers, food products, rum, and, of course the vanilla.
